A Day in the Life of a Commuter/Lazy Person Who Fears Karma/Cheapskate/Hopeless Romantic

My day started off with a big headache. You know it's gonna be a good day when it starts with a throbbing sensation anywhere else but your heart.

And then the LRT ride. My class was at 8:30, but because my siblings are still in high school I had to hitch a ride at 6am. I arrived at the station fifty minutes later. Being a veteran commuter (HAHAHA), I decided to skip two trains to avoid the morning rush. The moment I stepped aboard my chosen carriage, I heard Arnold Schwarzenegger (wow I spelled that right) uttering Jack Slater's (The Last Action Hero) famous line:

BIG MISTAKE.

Turns out this train had no aircon. Grrrrreeeeaaaat way to start the day.

And then classes. Math, as usual. Then Socsci. I got a 1.5 tenta and was therefore exempted from the finals. But I felt so...sad. All my grade components were great, except for a single long quiz I asdfghjkl-ed. Not that I failed it, I just got a barely-passing score. But IT RUINED EVERYTHINGGGGG. My inability (or lack of motivation) to memorize the evolution series of humans (read: hominids and hominoids are sooooo different) led to my so-so grade. I deserve this. v_v

Next up! Since we don't have Histo classes anymore, classes ended at 11.30 am. One of my blockmates said she was going to have her Natsci handouts bound at a Pedro Gil xerox shop for 30 pesos. So I thought that it would be responsible of me to do the same. I went and had my photocopy thingies softbound, expecting to feel more masipag as I browsed through a neat set of slides and notes. When Zerox Girl  (Zerox yung pangalan ng shop) handed us the two books, she charged 110 pesos. Fifty five each samantalang ang nipis lang. Pontiac. I only had 170 with me. I kissed Sergio OsmeƱa and kicked Emilio Aguinaldo goodbye, then went on our way.

And then something good happened: I bought a pirated copy of Zombadings so that my sister could watch it. And since the dude selling the DVDs didn't have 5 pesos, I got it for 30 pesos instead of 35. I bought it because I promised I'd watch it in a movie house with my sister but due to time constraints (film critique deadline!) I had to watch it alone. :( Also because I want to watch this again at a sleepoverrrrrr HAHAHA! So there, one good deed for ol' Patty.

Nothing much happened on the LRT ride back to Roosevelt, except for the fact that I noticed my bags took up a total of one human unit of space inside the train. Tsk, impolite commuter. [-(

And then there was the FX ride home. This is where sadness walks in.

The driver was a very impatient man. We were waiting for two more passengers, and he was uttering curses at the speed of light. And he wasn't uttering them under his breath, either. I had the seat next to the front passenger door. Not a good seat if you started your day as mentioned above. Mister Headache came back to accompany me on my way home as the door shook with every bump on the road. If I were Christopher Lao I'd start cursing the government for such lousy roads, but that's an entirely different blog post.

I was content with my bad headache and Socsci fail when the radio started to pour out the lyrics of what I considered to be that song which marks a veeery important realization moment in my life. I pulled off my earphones and was on the verge of getting misty-eyed and optimistic when Mister Impolite Driver changed the channel. "So high that I could almost asdghjklkjhgfdsqsdfgytrewsdfgvcdsedr." Well, Forrest Gump did say sht happens, so...

And then I got home. I had lunch (lugaw, haha) and decided I would study for Natsci (Chem) and make notes. I went to the library and opened the blinds to let the light in and sat on the couch and started highlighting things. And then...I fell asleep. Like a happy little munchkin cat curled up in the sunlight. As if all the sad happenings of the day did not matter at all.

says meow.

And now it's 01:38 am and I'm waiting for him to reply, but I think he fell asleep na.

It happens.

If only I did better.

I am so down.

I am brokenhearted because both my parents are sick My dad has been down with the flu for the past 4 days, and a few hours ago my mom just found out she has osteoporosis.

Which makes me think... of how time's flying by and things are slipping right through my fingers, how incapable I am of holding on to those I love and care for. How life is passing me by, how I have failed to motivate myself to go through the past few weeks with courage and determination. How I have failed to prevent these problems at present by being a better daughter maybe, or a better student, or a better person overall.

It's like having a gaping hole in your heart, and all the love and inspiration and optimism is gushing out, and applying pressure just won't do the trick. Even glow-in-the-dark nails aren't helping. Sigh. </3

Heartbroken, lonesome, emo, uninspired, and every other nega adjective.

asdfghjkklhgfdsdfghjk. Almost-Finals week is heeere. Math depex and Socsci exam on Friday. I screwed up my last socsci exam (sort of) and my last math depex too, and I REEEEEALLY NEED TO MAKE UP FOR BOTH.

I feel so alone in the college world. No Pisay friends to study with for the exams. No Pisay friends to hang out with at the caf. No Pisay friends to share formulas, frustrations, tears and hugs with. <///////////3

How the hell do you survive college finals alone? :'(

Here's to wishing I'd finish my requirements tonight.

Hey, friend!
I hope you're having a better time at college. If not, I will pray and send you light and happiness and good vibes, too. And if you're having an especially tough time, I'll throw in a package of Fibisco Chocolate Chip Cookies (ya know, the sort you grew up with) and milk, and then I'll call you so we can meet up and bond over our misery so that hopefully things will start looking up for us.

Lots of hugs (and a lot more love),

Patty :)

Hay. :<

In a perfect world...

I ♥ coffee

You ♥ tea

But I ♥ you

And you ♥ me.

(and we could be married, and then we'd be happy... wouldn't it be nice?)

Sunday Afternoon Radio.

Kitty Kallen. Vera Lynn. Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. Glenn Miller and his orchestra.

This is why Sunday afternoons are so nice for me.

Look for their songs on Youtube, then hit the 'play' button. Then close your eyes and imagine how these songs stood witness to countless WW2 love affairs: the soldiers who left their girlfriends without any assurance of a happy reunion, the love letters and photographs sent from across the globe to lonely GI's on the front.

My breaking heart and I agree
that you and I could never be.
This is the palette for the pattern I posted in my previous blog entry. Hi, Amanda! :)

Aaanyhow. So the war ended, and Alfred Eisenstaedt immortalized that triumphant moment with his camera... and ended up one of the most iconic photographs of World War II.

The V-J Day Kiss.

Did you know that these kissers were total strangers? :O

So there. Turn on the radio, tune in to FM 104.3, and start falling in love. :>

PS: I typed this entire entry via on-screen keyboard! @-) :)))

All the stars have agreed.

So since today's a Saturday I was supposed to go to Tutorlink to teach (cue "Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy here) wheeeen...

...my student cancelled. Hahaha.

My dad and I just passed by the cemetery where my paternal grandparents chose to spent their eternity, so we thought we'd pay them a visit.

The last of this week's money (also known as my savings) went to flowers and candles for Nanay and Tatay. I don't feel bad, considering they've provided for the entirety of my education before Pisay. I just feel like the lady who sold me the candles and the other who sold me the flowers earned a hefty profit. asdfghjiklkjhgfds.

Anyhow, moving on. All this time it was raining hard, I could sense that Quiel was enjoying his/her stay in our area of responsibility. Gusts of wind kept blowing out the candles we've just lighted inside the family mausoleum.

Dad turned on the old radio/boombox by the corner. It was a gift from him to his parents back when he was a young lad. Dad's the kind of guy who gives his parents a gift on the day of his birthday. HIS birthday. I wish I were that nice.

Out poured the lyrics of some OPM song I didn't recognize. But I was pretty sure it was Yael Yuzon singing.
"...Panatag na'ng kalooban ko
At ika'y kapiling ko na.
O kay tagal kitang hinintay."
Kay tagal kitang hinintay.

I suddenly felt like crying. I felt like my grandparents were talking to me from the other side. It's been a long time since I last visited them, and that very moment I felt like they never really left. Like they were there, sitting, waiting for me. Asking me what took me so long.

And I felt like crying for myself too. I felt like I've lost that part of me--that kid who felt so loved and felt nothing but love and compassion for the world.

It was a long time ago. Back when Math was made up of just numbers. When college was but a distant dream. When the world was yet to turn me into the cynical, frustrated, numbish person that I am now.

And so in my head I started talking to them.

"Hello, Nanay, Tatay. Si Patty po ito. Feeling ko binagsak ko yung depex ko kahapon. Hahaha..."

Remember that song from the Pisay movie soundtrack?
It has always sounded so bittersweet to me.

Let my dreams somersault,
Paint your rainbows here.

I feel like this is going to be one of those coming-of-age moments in my life.
