“Give me a kiss, sweetheart.”
The
grass blades tickle her scrubbed skin as we lay beneath the old mango tree. The
wind whispers lullabies into my restless mind and her broken heart.
She’s wondering about who would catch fireflies with her on warm summer
nights, who would take her to see the circus when it comes to town. Softly I
caress her weary forehead, and lie without shame.
“Give me a kiss, sweetheart.” And that was all.
Day in and day out, not a single letter comes.
Day in and day out, I stand before dreams: hopelessly, helplessly withering away.
