Inspiration Board: Dream Café ++

When I first saw a picture of Le Dome (Paris), I knew I wanted to establish a café of my own. While watching Moulin Rouge might have influenced my big love for all things French, the vintage feel + awesome architecture of this establishment was enough to win me over. It also stood witness to the unfolding of la Belle Époque, Christian and Satine's Bohemian era. So here's a post dedicated to all things vintage, and Parisian.
Le Dome way back then.
Le Dome in 2008.

The elephant really existed! Moulin Rouge, 1920s.

What could be more exotic than that? :)) Read more about the elephant here. :)

6pm on a Sunday is not a good time for thinking life over. Or is it?

Today I realized a few things:
  1. I'm desperate to color something with a nice layout. Grngh. I miss WebDev, and I regret not being awesome at it.
  2.  How awesome it is to be around Pisay people again. </3
  3. I need to do something creative.
  4. The hardest thing about moving on is realizing that the other person has moved on too. :))
  5. I really feel the need to use these colors somewhere:
I dare you to make a poem or story out of the color names here! Comment mo na lang. :>

Sooo. I am currently reliving my dreams of becoming a graphics designer.
<commencing epic space-out session>

BUT! Before I completely space out, a bit about last night :>

RO-ANNE'S DEBUT! It was fun! Til we got to the part where her contacts solution started irritating her eye so much that the debut had to end early so that she could go to the hospital. :( I hope she's doing well now, though. [-o<

It was great to see Pisay people again! I was on a happiness high, which could probably explain my happy colors. We headed over to McDonald's [and brought the party there]. Had an epic moment involving Dexter and the McDo Counter Girl (MCG). :> :))) Dex ordered a double caramel sundae. The waitress handed her a spoon instead of a teaspoon.

Dex: Uhm, pwede pahingi ng maliit na kutsara?
MCG: Eh sir, malaki po sundae nyo eh.

=)))))))))))))))))))

NGA PALA! First date ever ko rin last night. Three F words would best sum up this lifetime milestone :

FUDGE FRIES FUN
:>

Thank you so much, Nino! You make dreams come true. Ahihihihihi. :"> =)))))))) So here's that epic people-breaking-into-song sequence we've always been dreaming of. :>

So there. :)

Expectations versus Reality.

Before I start with the hardcore emo approach, let's go the comic way first.

If you're sad, please don't read the rest of this entry. It'll only make you sadder (and it'd be my fault, too). :( But if you're feeling brave (or happy) enough, then by all means dive right in.

PART ONE: Setting the Mood
1) Play the video below.

2) Try to get the feel of the song as you listen.

3) Keep it playing as you read.

PART TWO:  The (Poetic) Rant

Do you know how awesome this song is? It strikes the fulfilled AND regretful chords all at the same time. That's how all this sadness was triggered. Tsk tsk.

I've realized that disappointment and contentment has been influencing my palettes lately (aside from the occasional burst of pink), and I kinda find that sad. Like, 500-Days-of-Summer sad. And on some (MOST) days it's really not the best thing. :( I can't really cry 'cause I'm too tired and exhausted (I find myself having fatigue for breakfast on most days), but there's something inside that wants to be let out. Problem is I really don't think I have the energy (or the time) to really let it all out.

          Expectations-------------> Reality. Palette poetry. :>

It's depressing when you can't meet the expectations of society, but what's more depressing is when you can't meet your own. And that's what's been making me 'cry' for quite some time now (notice the 'crying deep down' tag). A part of me keeps saying I never really achieve, I do a so-and-so job and leave it at that. Now the parade of if-only's go round and round my head: taunting me, haunting me, rocking me to sleep each night.

PART THREE: Closing Remarks

Listening to this song, I get the feeling of letting something so good (probably great beyond my wildest imagination) slip away right before my very eyes, without even trying to hold on to it. I simply let it walk out the door, I let the fire die out. I failed.

So there. It's that feeling you get when you listen to this song: the feeling of love and loss, dreams and disappointments, expectations and reality. And no matter how lyrical and poetic it all sounds, the emptiness it leaves behind is once again something beyond my vocabulary.

It's that song from that sad movie

So I didn't get exempted.  Can you say brokenhearted?

<//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////3

There, I said it.

I've gotten into that senti-emo mood again, the same mood you get from watching (500) Days of Summer. :/ But I just don't want to stress myself out anymore. I missed. Maybe it's enough to accept that fact.

It's a bittersweet brand of sadness, one I have't really known quite so well as to explain completely. But here's a palette for you, which (I think) explains my feelings waaay better than my vocabulary can.

Did you recognize the sad part of the palette instantly?

Being a colornerd helps me soothe my feelings. It's a big thing in times when I'm not fluent enough with real human lingo. :))

Dream with me. :)

Someday I'll find you.

I'll look into your eyes and realize that's where I want to stay forever. You'd hold my hand and tell me everything's gonna be okay. Hugs would be heaven on earth.

We would dream underneath the fluffiest clouds, too, the way Carl and Ellie had done. We'd get married and find our dream house: something cozy and not too expensive, with a backyard to make memories in. No worries if it doesn't have a white picket fence, we would make any ol' place a great home, with lots of laughter and love.

We'd treat weekends like special holidays. We would share life's little pleasures together: good movies and great music and tons of MnMs. And oh, sundaes too, no matter what day it is. Come Monday morning you'd hit the snooze button and I'd make your morning coffee, and life would still be great, despite the fact that it is Monday morning.

So someday I'll find you. Good things, after all, take (a great deal of) time. :)

Sad Sundays.

We all cry over these scenes: someone ends up with their best friend and everything goes swell until something goes wrong and leaves a big, gaping hole in their life. And then things start to fall apart, and you hafta be in a Pixar movie to have a happy ending. :(

A Day in the Life of a Commuter/Lazy Person Who Fears Karma/Cheapskate/Hopeless Romantic

My day started off with a big headache. You know it's gonna be a good day when it starts with a throbbing sensation anywhere else but your heart.

And then the LRT ride. My class was at 8:30, but because my siblings are still in high school I had to hitch a ride at 6am. I arrived at the station fifty minutes later. Being a veteran commuter (HAHAHA), I decided to skip two trains to avoid the morning rush. The moment I stepped aboard my chosen carriage, I heard Arnold Schwarzenegger (wow I spelled that right) uttering Jack Slater's (The Last Action Hero) famous line:

BIG MISTAKE.

Turns out this train had no aircon. Grrrrreeeeaaaat way to start the day.

And then classes. Math, as usual. Then Socsci. I got a 1.5 tenta and was therefore exempted from the finals. But I felt so...sad. All my grade components were great, except for a single long quiz I asdfghjkl-ed. Not that I failed it, I just got a barely-passing score. But IT RUINED EVERYTHINGGGGG. My inability (or lack of motivation) to memorize the evolution series of humans (read: hominids and hominoids are sooooo different) led to my so-so grade. I deserve this. v_v

Next up! Since we don't have Histo classes anymore, classes ended at 11.30 am. One of my blockmates said she was going to have her Natsci handouts bound at a Pedro Gil xerox shop for 30 pesos. So I thought that it would be responsible of me to do the same. I went and had my photocopy thingies softbound, expecting to feel more masipag as I browsed through a neat set of slides and notes. When Zerox Girl  (Zerox yung pangalan ng shop) handed us the two books, she charged 110 pesos. Fifty five each samantalang ang nipis lang. Pontiac. I only had 170 with me. I kissed Sergio Osmeña and kicked Emilio Aguinaldo goodbye, then went on our way.

And then something good happened: I bought a pirated copy of Zombadings so that my sister could watch it. And since the dude selling the DVDs didn't have 5 pesos, I got it for 30 pesos instead of 35. I bought it because I promised I'd watch it in a movie house with my sister but due to time constraints (film critique deadline!) I had to watch it alone. :( Also because I want to watch this again at a sleepoverrrrrr HAHAHA! So there, one good deed for ol' Patty.

Nothing much happened on the LRT ride back to Roosevelt, except for the fact that I noticed my bags took up a total of one human unit of space inside the train. Tsk, impolite commuter. [-(

And then there was the FX ride home. This is where sadness walks in.

The driver was a very impatient man. We were waiting for two more passengers, and he was uttering curses at the speed of light. And he wasn't uttering them under his breath, either. I had the seat next to the front passenger door. Not a good seat if you started your day as mentioned above. Mister Headache came back to accompany me on my way home as the door shook with every bump on the road. If I were Christopher Lao I'd start cursing the government for such lousy roads, but that's an entirely different blog post.

I was content with my bad headache and Socsci fail when the radio started to pour out the lyrics of what I considered to be that song which marks a veeery important realization moment in my life. I pulled off my earphones and was on the verge of getting misty-eyed and optimistic when Mister Impolite Driver changed the channel. "So high that I could almost asdghjklkjhgfdsqsdfgytrewsdfgvcdsedr." Well, Forrest Gump did say sht happens, so...

And then I got home. I had lunch (lugaw, haha) and decided I would study for Natsci (Chem) and make notes. I went to the library and opened the blinds to let the light in and sat on the couch and started highlighting things. And then...I fell asleep. Like a happy little munchkin cat curled up in the sunlight. As if all the sad happenings of the day did not matter at all.

says meow.

And now it's 01:38 am and I'm waiting for him to reply, but I think he fell asleep na.

It happens.
